Does this story remind you of yourself? A client arrived at my office, winded from the stairs, shoulders sort of hunched, frowning. She flopped down in the chair, looking exhausted, and told me:

“I am trying so hard to practice patience and compassion, but I’m so on edge from this person I have to work with . . . I feel overwhelmed by how behind I am with my housework . . .

& I’m mad at myself because months ago, I said that by now, I’d have lost 10 pounds . . . and here I am, & nothing’s changed.”

I had her put her feet up and recline her chair back, & treated her with some ancient, holistic techniques. She called me later that week, and told me:

     “When I walked out of your office to my car, I noticed how bright the colors around me were, and the air felt really fresh. When I got home, I went in my kitchen, like always;

I was kind of shocked that my old habit of going straight for some refined food didn’t even sound good. I felt serene, like stress had let go of my brain, and I didn’t need to cope by grabbing some empty snack. I didn’t have that same old sad feeling of being entitled to eating so that I could try to get a break from pressure, like I usually do after work. I actually felt sort of exhilarated.”

She told me that her clothes were already looser, and that she’s waking up before her alarm goes off, refreshed & ready to get up. She said:

“I feel like I’ve turned a corner & my old patterns don’t own me anymore. I wish I hadn’t waited to try this. I’m amazed, and I'm so excited!”

Remember . . . you can't "feel" your way to a new action; you have to act  your way to a new feeling. If you're "waiting until you're ready",  you may want to consider adding procrastination to your list of what you'd like to see shift after Acupuncture or Counseling.
